Thinking, Listening and Communicating Courses

tlc courses allow delegates to reflect on where they are now: and focus on building the specific skills they particularly need. This means people with varying levels of experience can work in the same course group and all still benefit hugely.

ARK offers a choice of formats for the tlc course, all designed to be run as in-house training events for a single organisation. Courses can be personalised to your organisation's needs with additional or focus topics. Courses can be modular, phased, intensive – anything that suits you. As an example, here are just three variants:

Two Day Course

The two-day suits people in middle to senior management roles who have responsibility for others. Each session accommodates up to 12 delegates.

  • Personal style and communication preferences
  • Planning effective communications
  • Managing people
  • Listening to understand
  • Assertiveness
  • Dealing with people face-to-face, even in stressful situations
  • Writing with impact
  • Presenting
  • Self-management

One Day Course

This is an introduction to tlc for graduates, people new to management and junior management roles. It allows people to test-drive the techniques in a safe environment.

It covers:

  • Time and space to think
  • Understanding others
  • Different styles of thinking, listening and communicating
  • Listening as a powerful and active tool
  • Communicating in order to be understood
  • Communicating to persuade
  • Dealing with difficult people
  • Self confidence
  • Action planning

Half Day Course

This suits senior team members who have an issue to resolve or need to plan a project. 4-12 delegates can be accommodated per session.

It includes:

  • Thinking about the key issues
  • Prioritising action for today
  • Thinking pairs
  • Challenges to test the robustness of plans
  • Action planning
  • Using TLC techniques back in the workplace

Dyslexia in the Workplace Almost three million adults in the UK workforce suffer from dyslexia. Most people associate the condition with impaired reading skills, but in fact symptoms are more wide-ranging, including problems with maths, prioritising, absorbing and communicating information accurately and completing tasks in sequence. Adults with undiagnosed dyslexia have often developed sophisticated coping strategies, but can hit a wall when given autonomy over managing their day and their workload.

ARK now offers coaching support for dyslexia, including: dyslexia awareness for HR professionals; diagnostic testing; and coaching support for dyslexia sufferers and their line managers. We can help dyslexic people implement highly effective self-management action plans to reduce stress for themselves and their colleagues.
